The Grand View Park owes its reputation to the Da Guan Lou or Grand View Pavilion. Steeped in history, the pavilion is also known for its long couplet, written by Yunnan’s legendary scholar Sun Ranwen, during the Qing Dynasty. It is his couplet that makes Grand View Pavilion one of China's “Four Famous Pavilions”. The first part of the couplet talks highly of the various scenic areas of Kunming and the breathtaking views they afford. The second half of the couplet gives an insight into Yunnan’s history, spanning thousands of years and concludes that no matter how big a battle is won, everything, including the glory earned from such battles, yields to nothingness in the end. So, if you wish to study in China and have a penchant for history, the Grand View Park is worth a tour.
If you plan to study overseas in Kunming with us and want to escape the concrete din and bustle of life, take a trip to the park, just 6 KM (3.8miles) from downtown Kunming. The Grand View Park is located on the north bank of Dianchi Lake, cradled by the Sleeping Beauty Western Mountains. The park strikingly resembles an arboretum and is composed of Jing Hua Pu Garden, West Garden and South Garden. The Jing Hua Pu Garden is representative of the typical garden architectural elements from China's Ming and Qing dynasties. The garden also sheds some light on how garden architecture evolved over the last 300 years in Kunming. The South Garden perfectly combines the techniques of garden architecture in China with that of the west. The Western Garden introduces us to relatively modern architecture, as manifested by a roller coaster and other facilities that are typical of an amusement park. The Western Park adds to the comprehensiveness of the Grand View Park.
