Weekly Morning Class and
Afternoon Activities Program:
Basic Introduction

The Weekly Morning Class and Afternoon Activities Program is meant for students interested in learning Mandarin Chinese on their own schedule – students can begin any Monday throughout the year and have the flexibility to decide the length of their course. Students can enroll for a minimum of two weeks to one year or more.  Classes are held for beginner through advanced students and run for 3 hours 45 minutes of classes in the mornings per day, Monday to Thursday, for a total of 15 hours per week.

Students will be given a placement test to assess their knowledge of Mandarin on their first day. The placement test will evaluate the students' skill levels and place them in the correct class.

For beginners the aim of our Weekly Morning Class and Afternoon Activities Program is to help give them the basic Chinese language skills they need to more fully enjoy and experience their time in China . Knowing basic Chinese will not only enable them to do simple tasks but will also give them the confidence and skills they need to interact with Chinese people on a daily basis. Intermediate or advanced students will learn more about Chinese usage and pick up nuances of language usage with other students in this program or with language exchange partners.

For more information on this program, please read below or visit the
Detailed Program Description for the Weekly Morning Class and Afternoon Activities Program.

  • Build commonly used vocabulary (oral Chinese)
  • Study commonly used Chinese characters
  • Understand Chinese values and custom

Smaller Class-Size and Experienced Faculty

To ensure maximum student-teacher interaction we have small class sizes, normally 2-4 students but with a maximum of 7 students. A smaller class size also guarantees one-on-one attention that students need in order to achieve a strong grasp of basic Mandarin.  Knowing basic Chinese will not only enable them to do simple tasks like order food and ask for directions to a particular place but will also give them the confidence and skills they need to interact with Chinese people on a daily basis. Our teachers take painstaking care to assure that students pronounce Mandarin with ease and precision. All our teachers are highly qualified and seasoned with years of experience in teaching Chinese to international students.

Class Supplemented by Afternoon Activities

Classes are held in the morning, and then in the afternoon students participate in a variety of activities where they can further practice their Chinese.  Students can choose to volunteer in a Chinese non-profit organization or engage in language exchange with local students or for an added fee, to enroll in one-on-one tutorial or be placed in an tinternship.  We feel it is important for students to be in a situation in the afternoon where they are actively able to practice what they have learned in their morning classes.

University Transfer Credit

Students may be able to transfer credits back to their home university. If you want to transfer credits back please let us know during application.  In most US universities, 15 hours of classes equal to one credit. If the students' home institutions are on this system, they may be able to earn one credit for every 15 hours of classes through our local university partners in Kunming .  Students whose home institutions use another system will have to check with their institutions as to how the credits may transfer. We also offer one-on-one tutoring sessions after class.  Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate signed by Minds Abroad and an official transcript from our partner institutions. Our partner universities are fully accredited, public institutes of higher education.
