Chinese Language Classes
Every morning while in Kunming, students will have classes that develop their Chinese language skills. These classes will teach reading, writing, listening and speaking but will primarily be geared toward helping the students make rapid progress in their oral communication skills. Class sizes will be kept very small (a maximum of three students per class) to ensure that students get as much attention from their teachers as possible. These classes will be taught by teachers from our partner university, who all have several years of experience teaching Chinese to international students.
Volunteer English Teaching
In Kunming, students will volunteer to teach English to children in the local community. Over the past few decades, many young people in China have become interested in learning English. Unfortunately, most students in China lack the environment they need to make great strides in their English learning. One of the reasons for this is they don't have native speakers teaching them in their English classes and lack the opportunities to speak with foreigners that they need in order to improve their English. By volunteering to teach some of these children, students in this program will help them improve their English skills and increase their curiosity about the world. Additionally, by volunteering in the community, students will learn a lot about Chinese culture. This kind of cultural exchange is at the center of what this program in China is all about.
Excursions in China and India
Through some of our program, students will visit fast growing metropolises, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and participate in rural homestays. We believe this not only gives students a balanced perspective into the rapidly modernizing urban China, but also into rural society where the majority of people in China still live. With some of our summer programs we arrange for trips to the large coastal cities of Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou as well as some of Yunnan province's gorgeous countryside. We try to give students a balanced perspective of both the countries where includes immersion to typical Chinese and Indian cities as well as some rural areas of the country that the majority of people in both these countries still live. We shall not only conduct trips in China but also in India. In India we will take students to Delhi, Calcutta and Sikkim ( a beautiful Himalayan state in Eastern India) for India.
